When my fiance went shopping for the ring, he got me a beautiful emerald, which is one of my favorite stones. He tried to find me a sapphire, because my favorite color is blue, but none of the cuts of the sapphires he saw were attractive to me. Personally, I've always been a bit bored by diamonds. Also, the conflict surrounding natural diamonds is very upsettling. A non-traditional stone makes the ring even more special to me, as it means that the buyer was thinking about what would be special to the person they intend on asking.
